Christine Susan Brandt Carlson died March 29, in Prairie du Chien, two days short of her 57th birthday, from complications of her struggle against breast cancer.

She was the daughter of Quentin and the late Dorothy Brandt, formerly of Prairie du Chien. She was born in St. Paul, Minn., and moved as a girl with her family from Roseville, Minn., to Prairie du Chien in 1969. She graduated from Prairie du Chien High School in 1979, and then attended WWTI in La Crosse, where she earned a two-year degree, and later took classes at University of Wisconsin-Stout and Oakland Community College.

Chris worked both as a library assistant and as a veterinary assistant, at which, she discovered a latent love for animals.

She spent much of her adult life in suburban Detroit, where she raised two daughters, Jacqueline Carlson (Shawn Camp), of Lake Orion, Mich., and Caitlin (Michael) Foster, of La Crosse. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara (Edward) Myers, of Prairie du Chien; and a brother, Steven Brandt (Lynda McDonnell), of Minneapolis; her former husband Gene (Tracy) Carlson, of Miami; sister-in-law Beth Brandt, of Des Moines, Iowa; and a grandchild due this summer, Becket Christian Foster.

She was preceded in death by her mother; her brother Bruce Brandt; and her infant son, Scott.

Chris was a woman of strong friendships, and consummate care for others. The calm with which she faced her disease, and the reverses it inflicted on her, amazed and inspired both friends and family.
