Dwayne Farmer

Dwayne Eldon Farmer, 70, of Marion, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018, in his home surrounded by his loving family.    

He was born January 21, 1948, on a farm near Volga, Iowa to Donald Eldon and Mildred (Brady) Farmer. He was the oldest of 12 children. He graduated in 1966 from Central Community High School in Elkader, and then joined the Army. Dwayne proudly served in Okinawa and returned home to begin his 45-plus year career in masonry construction. His masonry artistry can be enjoyed all over the state of Iowa.  

He is survived by his fiancée Susan Hightshoe of Marion; four children, Jessica Rose of Springfield, Il; Jeremy (Jenny) of Marion; Cody (Jamie) of Vinton and Daniel (Melisa) of Marion; his eight grandchildren, Austin, Dylan, Jared, MaKenna, Landon, Bryleigh, Grayson, Daniel Jr.; his siblings, David Farmer of Cedar Falls; Michael (Jasmine) Farmer of Cedar Falls; J.D. (Irene) Farmer of Palo; Mary Dee Medema of Cedar Rapids; Chris (Dee) Farmer of rural Volga; Theresa Farmer of Cedar Rapids; Angela (Steve) Johnson of Lady Smith, Wisconsin; Lisa (Dale) Krieg of rural Edgewood; Lynn Farmer of Vinton; and Jenny (Daryl) Vaske of rural Manchester and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family members. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Dwight, niece Holly, nephew Nate, and infant son, Jared John.  

Dwayne truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures.  Spending time with his family, serving his church, and his recent love of international travel were his passions.  

Visitation was held Tuesday, April 10th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom, with a public vigil beginning at 4 p.m. A funeral mass was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 11th at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. A committal service, with military honors, followed at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Dwayne will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him so dearly.

A memorial in Dwayne’s name has been established.
