Larry J. Jelinek
Larry J. Jelinek, 92, of Prairie du Chien, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 17, at his home.
He was born Sept. 29, 1925, the son of Anthony and Marie (Kautman) Jelinek. He married Edith ‘Sis’ Konichek on Sept. 21, 1950. Larry served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He and Sis farmed for many years in rural Prairie du Chien. He was a longtime member of the Cliffhangers Snowmobile Club. Edith preceded him in death on May 18, 2014.
He is survived by his daughters Sandy (Harold) Guernsey, of Eastman, and Susie Broadwater, of Suwanee, Ga.; his son Larry (Heidi) Jelinek Jr., of Avoca; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and 12 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his brothers Greg, Adrian, Joseph, Anthony, Edmund, Cyril and LaVerne; his sisters Sophie Stankus, Josephine Stumpner and Marie Colson Heisz; and his grandson Larry Jelinek III.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, April 21, at 10:30 a.m., at St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Rev. James Weighner officiating, with burial in the Calvary Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien. Military honors will be accorded by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
