John G. “Joco” Cejka, 86, of Prairie du Chien, died peacefully Wednesday, May 9, at the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home in King.

 

John was born July 21, 1931 in Prairie du Chien the son of John Joseph and Helen (Bouzek) Cejka. After he graduated from Prairie du Chien Senior High School in 1949, John worked at Northern Engraving from 1945 to 1952. He enlisted in the US Army on Nov. 18, 1952. While in service he received the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Ribbon and a Bronze Service Star. John learned surveying while in the military and went to work after leaving the service for IIW Engineers and Surveyors. He retired in 1997.

 

He is survived by his sister-in-law, Mrs. Robert Betty Cejka, of Prairie du Chien. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Raymond (Dorothy), Frederick (Lavonne) and Robert; along with a sister Evelyn (Lauren) Taylor.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, May 16, at 10:30 a.m., at St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Rev. James Weighner officiating, with burial in the Calvary Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien. Military honors will be accorded by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. Friends may call on Wednesday at the Holy Family Parish Hall from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.
