Sharon B. “Pat” Niemann, 76, of Prairie du Chien, and formerly of Postville, Iowa, passed away Friday, May 4, at Crossing Rivers Health Center in Prairie du Chien.

 

Sharon was born Dec. 30, 1941 in Postville, Iowa, to Vernas and Beulah (Harris) Meyer. She was baptized April 25, 1943, at the Community Presbyterian Church of Postville. Pat was a 1960 graduate of Postville High School. In 1960, Pat was united in marriage with Dyrl Porterfield and to this union four children were born. They later divorced.

 

On Oct. 5, 1991, she married Darwin Niemann at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. For many years Pat worked as a Government inspector at Iowa Turkey Products in Postville. She loved spending time with her family and watching her children and grandchildren at sporting events. Pat enjoyed fishing and spending time on the river. She also enjoyed watching “Little House on the Prairie,” Westerns, playing solitaire on the computer and reading.

 

Pat had a selfless nature and always had time to help others in their times of need. She was a very hard worker and her family considered her as “Old School” tough. Pat was past president of the Eagles Auxiliary in Prairie du Chien, and was involved with the Ding-A-lings.

 

She is survived by her children, Jaci (Craig) Burns, of Luana, Iowa, Brad (Marcie) Porterfield, of Manly, Iowa, and Becky (Joe) Barlow, of Clear Lake; two step-children, Susan (John) Kostman, of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, and Dennis (Karla) Niemann, of Yulm, Wa.; twelve grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elaine (Jim) Rima, of Oquawka, Ill., and Karen Meyer, of Postville, Iowa; and one brother, Dennis (Jane) Meyer, of Waukon, Iowa.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Darwin; son, Joey; step-daughter, Darla Niemann; grandchild, Christopher Thompson; and sisters Kathleen (Kerr) Scheffert and Nancy (Frieden) Ulrich.

 

Memorial Services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 12, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa, with Rev. Lynn Noel as the officiant. A two hour visitation will be held before services at the church on Saturday. Inurnment will be at the Postville Cemetery. The Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Postville is assisting the family.
