Call for floats, volunteers June 30

Planning has begun for the annual Stars and Stripes celebration in Guttenberg, scheduled for Saturday, June 30.
A theme has been chosen for the Guttenberg Chamber of Commerce's celebration. This year's theme for parade floats and entertainment is 'Reelin' In the Summer Fun.' Festivities begin at 3 p.m. in Ingleside Park and will carry on throughout the evening, set to music by The After Party and concluding with Guttenberg’s traditional fireworks over the Mississippi River after the sun sets behind the bluff.
"Our 'Reelin' in the Summer Fun' theme is intended to go along with the Umbrella Arts community sculpture contest and the arrival of the fish sculpture in the park later this summer," said Chamber Director Mandy Ludovissy. "Show your community spirit! Everyone is invited to participate in the parade!"
Community members, businesses, families and dignitaries are encouraged to create floats for the parade. Parade entries will be judged in the following categories: golf carts/UTVs, bikes/wagons, floats for organizations or businesses and a new category, family floats. "Families are encouraged to show their idea of family fun in designing a float," Ludovissy explained. The parade is set to begin at 7 p.m. and prizes will be awarded in all categories.
The family-oriented Stars and Stripes Celebration is one of Guttenberg’s most popular summer events. Celebrating the birth of our great nation while creating fond family memories is an important project, and volunteers are needed to help this special day go smoothly. Organizers are also looking for volunteers to sell tickets to games, tickets in the beverage garden, help with clean up, and to help with other tasks as needed on the big day. If you’d like to be a volunteer at Guttenberg’s Stars and Stripes Celebration, please contact the Chamber at 252-2323.
Organizations wishing to sell items or host activities in the park are still welcome to register by calling the number listed above. Vendor fees are just $35 and organizations keep all proceeds from their activities.
