Madonna M. “Donna” Kapinus, 78, of Prairie du Chien passed away unexpectedly Monday, June 25, at the Gundersen Health System in La Crosse following a brief illness. 

She was born March 29, 1940, in Steuben, the daughter of Forrest and Anna (Messling) Picha. She married Larry Kapinus on Aug. 6, 1960, at St. John’s Church in Prairie du Chien. She and her husband farmed most of their lives in rural Prairie du Chien. She was a great cook and talented baker. Donna was an active member of St. John’s Parish. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother who will be sadly missed by all. 

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Larry, of Prairie du Chien; her children, Laurie (Ted) Pennfield, Larry (Camille), Lowell (Judy Wagner) and Lonnie Kapinus, all of Prairie du Chien; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Harold, Larry, Vern, Kerry, Eldon and Ken Picha; and her sisters, Arlene Neeley and Loretta Oelke.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, June 29, at 11 a.m., at St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Rev. James Weighner officiating, with burial in the Calvary Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call on Thursday, June 28, from 4 to 8 p.m., and Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of departure for the church at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien.
