Michael E. DeMuth
Michael E. DeMuth, 79, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Tuesday, June 19, at his home.
He was born Dec. 17, 1938, in Prairie du Chien, the son of Raymond and Martha (Weber) DeMuth. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He married Patricia Harris on June 22, 1963. Mike worked as a mechanic for Lloyd Schneider and later for Lochner’s Service Station in Prairie du Chien.
He loved to tinker with anything that had an engine and even built his own racecar. He was a member of the Prairie du Chien Fire Department for over 32 years and retired as the Fire Chief in 1996. Mike was a fire fighting instructor at Southwest Technical College and also enjoyed teaching Gun Safety.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Pat DeMuth, of Prairie du Chien; his children John (Patricia) DeMuth, of Madison, Chris Bartels, of Lancaster, and Raymond DeMuth, of Garber, Iowa; his brother Larry (Mary) DeMuth, of Minocqua; along with his grandchildren, Samuel, Ariana, Ryan and Derek.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Paul, Ken, Max and Bob DeMuth.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 22, at 11 a.m., at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Deacon Mark Grunwald officiated, with burial in the Calvary Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien. Military honors were accorded by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Prairie du Chien Fire Department.
