Marcus A. Morarend, 71, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at his home in Bagley.

He was the youngest of four children born to Juanita (Blume) and Marvin Morarend, in Guttenberg, Iowa. The family later moved to Gran Grae, where Marcus attended the local schoolhouse. He spent his days working the family farm, fishing, hunting and venturing through the woods. His love of the outdoors became part of him and he shared that love with many family and friends throughout his life. His love of the outdoors also led him to be part of the founding group whom started the local Rendezvous.

In 1966, Marcus voluntarily enlisted in the Army. He served in the Vietnam war as both infantry and later a door gunner in the 68th AHC-Top Tigers. He continued his service upon his return from overseas with the Reserves.

Marcus worked at Chrysler Motors and later for 3M, where he retired from working as a maintenance mechanic after 27 years. Marcus was devoted to helping anyone he could throughout his life. He volunteered many years to serving the Bridgeport Township-Prairie du Chien First Responders and Fire Department. Marcus was a beloved father, grandfather, friend and family who will miss him dearly.

Marcus is survived by his daughter, Lindsey Davis, (Brett) of Hinesville, Ga.; two grandsons, Storm Morarend and Asher Davis, of Hinesville, Ga.; his sisters Joyce Byers, of Whitewater, and Kay Knospe, of Elkader, Iowa; and many close friends whom he considered family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Charles.

A gathering of love and remembrance for Marcus will be held at the North Shelter of Lawler Park, in Prairie du Chien, at 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 5. Military honors will be accorded by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. Friends and family are welcome to attend to share memories and stories of Marcus. Should friends or family desire, instead of sending flowers, a veteran non-profit organization has been designated. Memorial contributions can be made: “In Memory of Marcus Morarend,” Chapter #46 DAV (Disabled American Veterans), P.O. Box 673, Hinesville, GA 31310. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.
