Roland Emory Hansel, 75, or you may have known him as Gano, Boise, Sonny or Uncle, of Guttenberg passed away Monday, July 30, 2018, at his farm on Miners Creek.

Visitation was Monday, Aug. 6, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg. Funeral services followed the visitation at the funeral home, conducted by Rev. Gary Hatcher.

Roland was born Nov. 16, 1942, to Emery and Edna (Handke) Hansel, on Miners Creek. He attended Miners Creek School until it closed in 1952. Roland then attended Guttenberg Public School, graduating in 1961. He worked at various places in Guttenberg, including Hilton Homes and Products Unlimited, along with pursuing his lifelong passion of farming.

Roland was a cantankerous character, always laughing and telling stories. He enjoyed his life on the farm, although he always said, “Everything had to be done the hard way.” He also had a love for his cattle and John Deere tractors. Roland loved telling old stories even though most of us heard them a thousand times. He liked to keep the past alive. Later in life he had greater appreciation of wildlife and nature.

Roland is survived by his niece, Spring (Jamie) Crubaugh; great-nephew, Mason Crubaugh; brother-in-law, Art Tomkins; aunts and uncles, Mary Ann (Lavern) Hoeger, Eugene Handke, Augusta (Marvin) Gloeckner, Lillian Handke and Arlene Handke; along with many cousins, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sharon Tomkins.
