Eric T. Brey, 42, of Prairie du Chien and formerly of Richland Center, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien. He was born on Sept. 14, 1975, in Sauk County, to Richard and Dorothy (Rose) Brey.

On Sept. 30, 1991, Eric’s life would forever change. Despite Eric’s disability, he never let it get the best of him. Even on his worst days, he would get up in his wheelchair and conquer the world.

On Aug. 27, 2011, Eric married the love of his life Lori (Lewis). He was currently an intern with the Crawford County Master Gardeners. He was a 1994 graduate of Richland Center High School.

Hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening, playing bingo, going to the movies, reading books, going to music festivals, going to the free summer concerts on the river, and bird and squirrel watching. He enjoyed feeding the squirrels, especially his pets Pete and Philbert. He also enjoyed going on vacations and road trips with his wife, sitting outside in the sun and just enjoying life. Eric was a true inspiration and hero. If you were having a bad day, he was sure to put a smile on your face and make you laugh.

Survivors of Eric include his wife Lori (Lewis) Brey, Prairie du Chien; mother Dorothy Brey, Richland Center; sister Becky Brey, Richland Center, brothers Francis Brey, Richland Center, and Richard (Jerri) Brey, Hillsboro; nieces Riley and Lexi, nephew Jamie (Serra) and nephew Cody; aunts, uncles and other relatives and friends. Eric is further survived by his special friend Ken Adney, and his friend and mentor Donna Teynor, of Prairie du Chien. Eric was preceded in death by his father.

According to Eric’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. A private family memorial service is being planned for a later date.

The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family. Online condolences may be left at www.garrityfuneralhome.com.
