Michael J. Hurda, 69, of Seneca, passed away Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Bland Bekkedal Hospice Center in Viroqua. 

Michael was born Nov. 1, 1948, in Prairie du Chien,  the son of John and Florence (Copus) Hurda. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He married Judy Ray on Oct. 9, 1976, at the Salem United Methodist Church in Eastman. Mike worked at Advance Transformer in Boscobel for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding his motorcycle. He was renowned for his conversational skills. 

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Judy, of Seneca; his children, Scott (Jessica Lamere), of Prairie du Chien, Bruce (Michelle Grover) and Brian, both of Seneca; his brothers, Patrick (Joan), of Wauzeka, and Gregory (Sue), of Boscobel; his sisters, Rosemary (Ron) Rasmaussen, of Decorah, Iowa, Valerie (Gene) Ward and Margie (Joe) Keene, both of Boscobel, and Peggy (Terry) Tesar, of Prairie du Chien; his grandchildren, Ty, Ava, Evan and Trevor. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be Saturday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m. at the Salem United Methodist Church, Reverends Lynn Schreck and Barb Cook officiating, with interment in the National Cemetery, both in Eastman. Military honors will be accorded graveside. Friends may call on Saturday at the church hall from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
