Bluff View to have assistant principal, District also receives many donations

At its regular meeting Monday night, the Prairie du Chien Board of Education accepted numerous donations to the district from various businesses and organizations.

“It just goes to show how supportive our community is to our schools and how our local businesses support our kids,” said District Administrator Robert Smudde.

The Parent Teacher Organization purchased school supplies for the school district. PTO members Karen Moris and Kathy Thomas also helped Rita Breuer to begin painting stencils on the Bluff View playground. Olson Feed Service donated funds to the fifth-grade ELA program. The Gundersen Behavioral Health Clinic donated magazines to Bluff View. Christine Panka donated to the B.A. Kennedy Club. The Prairie du Chien Eagles Club donated school supplies to B.A. Kennedy. 3M of Prairie du Chien donated school supplies to B.A. Kennedy. The Prairie du Chien Correctional Institution donated school supplies to B.A. Kennedy. Mr. Furstenberg earned a DonorsChoose.org donation of five iPads and cases. It was noted that B.A. Kennedy had an excellent turnout for its recent open house. The George Family Foundation donated money to the sixth grade outdoor education program. MPC donated funds for school supplies.

The board met in closed session to discuss the performance, potential discipline and continued employment of the Bluff View principal. The board did not make a decision on the matter Monday night.

Also, the board approved of a new assistant principal position at Bluff View, which has many more students than either the high school or B.A. Kennedy. The new position will be posted and will be for the 2019-2020 school year. The assistant principal position will, in effect, take the place of the current dean of students position at Bluff View.

In other district news, U.S. Cellular has erected a communication monopole on school district property just beyond the centerfield fence of the high school baseball field. U.S. Cellular pays rent to the school district of $800 per month for the monopole. Smudde said U.S. Cellular also maintains the pole and the surrounding area.

Smudde said the new auditorium construction is moving right along and is nearing completion. The seats have been installed and a lot of interior work has been completed. Also, the exterior is beginning to take shape with the numerous windows near the entrance offering a stylish architectural appearance.
