Michael Charles Cavanaugh
Michael Charles Cavanaugh, 72, of Dunedin, Fla., died Sunday, May 27. Michael was born on Aug. 22, 1945, to Orrel and Mary (Kluss) Cavanaugh in Miami, Fla. After graduating high school, where he was a star basketball player, Mike attended Amundsen Junior College in Chicago, Ill.
Mike was the owner of Yankee Doodle Restaurant and Dyna Systems Carpet Cleaning, both in Wheaton, Ill.; as well as manager of various restaurants. He reveled in the restaurant business and, up until the time of his death, would offer advice to any budding entrepreneur. He loved the McGregor, Iowa area, spending every Memorial Day weekend and fall there. Mike spent his time collecting antiques, watching old western movies and enjoying pizza and beer. Mike appreciated American history, liked basketball and was a Chicago White Sox fan. Mike’s favorite movie was “Somewhere in Time” and he would listen to the sound track at length.
Mike is survived by his daughter, Courtney Cavanaugh of Geneva, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orrel and Mary Cavanaugh; and a brother, Robert Cavanaugh.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3, at Bloomfield Cemetery, Castalia, Iowa. Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of McGregor, Iowa, is helping the family with the arrangements.
