There was a non-emergency lockdown at Prairie du Chien High School on Friday, Dec. 21.

It was brought to the attention of the school principal via the Prairie du Chien Police Department that there were some “troubling statements” made on social media that involved a student at the school.

Principal Andy Banasik called for a non-emergency lockdown and the building was searched by administration and the police department. The entire building and interior and exterior were swept and deemed safe by school administrators and the police officers onsite. The lockdown was then lifted and students returned to the regular student schedule (which at this time was lunch).  Students then proceeded to an all school assembly.

The student in question was taken into police custody during the non-emergency lockdown.

All non-emergency lockdown policies and procedures were followed.

“We are continuing to work with law enforcement and are monitoring the situation through the break,” said District Administrator Robert Smudde. “As we know more, we will be able to determine what the next steps for the district will be. As far as the student in question, I cannot share any information at this time as it is considered a confidential record. The district is taking these comments very seriously, and is doing everything in our power to keep the children at Prairie du Chien Schools safe.”
