William “Bill” Leonard Neises, 77, of Patch Grove, succumbed to cancer on Jan. 2, 2019, at his residence, after a courageous nine-year battle.

He was born on Nov. 20, 1941, in Prairie du Chien, the first son of Leonard and Elsie (Graf) Neises.

Bill graduated from Patch Grove High School in 1959, where he had an outstanding high school basketball career. After high school, Bill worked various jobs and attended Milwaukee Area Technical College, where he received an associate’s degree in diesel mechanics. He worked at Cummins Diesel in Milwaukee before returning to Patch Grove in 1968, to farm with his mother, Elsie, and brother, Leonard “Doc.” Bill continued to successfully farm for 50 years. During these years, Bill also served on the Patch Grove Township Board, Patch Grove Fire Department, and 28 years on the board of Bloomington Farmers Mutual Insurance Company. Bill never saw a child he did not love. He was a loving and caring brother, uncle, great uncle, stepfather and grandfather.

Bill is survived by his sisters, Carol (Wayne) Kanack, Barbara (David) Rewey, Rita (Brian Fischer) Renner, and brothers Chris (Barbara) Neises and Leonard “Doc” (Kate) Neises; step-children, Kristen Hoffman and Dan Neises; six grandchildren; and 12 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Elsie, and a grandson, Aiden Hoffman.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Patch Grove, with Father John Meinholz officiating. Private family burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery at a later date. After his funeral service, there will be a luncheon in St. John’s basement. Following the luncheon, there will be a celebration of Bill's life at Lu Lu’s Bar & Grill in Patch Grove.
