Bernadette M. Wernke
Bernadette M. “Bernie” Wernke, 75, of Worthington passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade.
Visitation was Monday, Jan. 21, at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, and before services at the funeral home on Tuesday.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 22, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, conducted by Rev. Dennis Conway.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Bernie was born Nov. 1, 1943, in Sherrill, the daughter of Charles and Regina (Nauman) Schueller. She married David Gregor Wernke on Feb. 24, 1962, in Sherrill. Bernie has joined the Angels and Saints in heaven and is free from her pain and suffering.
Bernie is survived by her husband of 56 years, David; children, Barry (Lisa) Wernke of Guttenberg, Thomas (friend, Shelly Weist) Wernke of Cedar Rapids, Beth (Kevin) Leliefeld of Guttenberg, John J. Wernke of Worthington; five grandchildren, Allison (Josh) Buckmann, Holly Wernke, Kerri (Brad Tracey) Leliefeld, Alex Leliefeld, Cody Wernke; two great-grandchildren, Jackson Buckmann and Madison Tracy; sisters, Elizabeth Hingtgen of Asbury, Annette Schmitt of East Dubuque, Ill., Marilyn (James) Lansing of Dubuque; in-laws, Lou McDonough, Eileen Schueller, both of Dubuque, Marian (Tom) Noblitt of Loretto, Tenn., Joan Klein of Durango and Ruth (Rick) Ruden of Hudson.
Bernie was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law, John and Odelia (Zewen) Wernke; siblings, Jerome Schueller, Richard (Shirley) Schueller, Geraldine “Toots” McDonough; in-laws, LaVern Hingtgen, Steve Schmitt, Roger (Anna Mae) Wernke, Robert (Janet) Wernke and Donald Klein.
