Junior Jerrod Osterkamp works a front headlock from his feet. Osterkamp would score a reversal with seconds left for a 2-1 victory.

Senior Reid Koenig applies heavy pressure on his ride. Koenig would win with an 8-2 decision.

Lancaster High School was the host for a winner take all dual on Friday, Jan. 25. In a battle to determine who would be crowned outright SWC Champs, two highly ranked teams would lock horns. Lancaster came into the match with a 13-0 overall record and a ranking of #5 in D3. PDC came into the dual with a 15-1 overall record and a ranking of #6 in D2. Something had to give.

The match began at 182#, where Zach Swiggum was rolled over and pinned to give the Lancaster home faithful the early momentum. At 195#, Grant Martin would run into a state ranked buzzsaw and be pinned. At 220#, a highly entertaining match between Luke Wright and a highly state ranked wrestler would happen. At the end of period one, the score was 6-5 in Lancaster’s favor. Wright would continue to battle and be down 12-10 after two periods. In the third period, Wright would be pinned. Jerrod Osterkamp, state ranked at 285#, would stop the bleeding for the Blackhawks. Osterkamp would find himself down 1-0 at the end of the second period. It looked like the Arrows might take another one, but Osterkamp was able to get a reversal with seconds left in the third period for a 2-1 victory.

At 106#, Nick Mara was pinned. The Blackhawks forfeited at 113#. At 120#, two state ranked opponents would take the mat. After giving up a first period takedown, Matt Rogge would secure two nearfall points off of an outside cradle in period two to tie it up. In period three, Rogge would get a reversal and ride his opponent out for a 4-2 victory. At 126#, Chase Watson’s three takedowns wouldn’t be enough, as his opponent would score a reversal and get a pin with just two seconds remaining in the match. At 132#, Keenan Holley would secure a fall in the third period of a 4-4 match for the win.

At 138#, PDC’s state ranked Traeton Saint was all business, taking a 7-3 lead into the third period before decking his opponent with a fall. At 145#, Reid Koenig, state ranked, would earn a workman like victory with an 8-2 decision. At 152#, two state ranked opponents toed the line. Bradyn Saint would not stop scoring en route to a 16-1 technical fall over a two time state qualifier. Saint would score on four takedowns and three different near fall combinations before scoring a blast double leg for the win. At 160#, Isaac Avery would drop an 8-3 decision. To end the dual, two more state ranked opponents would battle it out at 170#. Unfortunately, Lancaster’s state placewinner from a year ago would secure a fall over Tyler Smock. The 45-26 win for Lancaster, their first in the last five duals against PDC, earned them the SWC Championship.

Up next for the Blackhawks will be the SWC/SWAL Clash in Saturday, Feb. 2 at Richland Center. Action begins at 9 a.m.
