An area known for its unique antique shops has gained another establishment. Roxanne Martin recently opened My Kinda Stuff at 132 North St., in Marquette.

“I used to have an antique store quite a few years ago,” Martin said, “and I was just waiting for an opportunity.”

Last summer, she met Steve Eagle, who owns the downtown building, which he previously operated as Stevie Gene’s North Street Market. The more she heard about the location, the more Martin thought it would be a good fit for her next adventure.

“God just laid it in my lap and said, ‘It’s time,’” she remarked. “So I went to Steve. He’s been so kind and generous.”

The business name is indicative of the items it contains.

“I was talking to a friend about opening my own place and she asked, ‘What are you going to put in it?’” Martin shared. “I said, ‘Well, my kinda stuff.’”

The eclectic assortment of antiques, gifts and collectibles includes everything from glassware, pottery, crocks and figurines to vintage toys, art and furniture.

Martin said most of the pieces came from either her home or the moving truck parked outside it, where she stores additional items.

“It just makes me happy. I love being around them,” she said. “But I can’t have it all in my house, so what better way to have it around me.”

Some of the items came from Martin’s grandmother and great aunts. Others she’s found and collected over the years.

“Wherever I’m at, I’m always keeping my eye out for treasures,” she said.

So far, Martin said the Marquette community has been very supportive of My Kinda Stuff. Staff from Eagles Landing Winery, located across the street, brought her a flashing open sign to place in the window. Locals have already stopped in and found gifts.

My Kinda Stuff is currently open Thursday through Monday. Although some shops close during the winter, Martin said she’s glad she stuck it out.

“I’ve earned some money being open in the winter, and I’m going to stick with that,” she quipped.
