Driver falls asleep, causes accident involving 3 vehicles

On Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 5:34 p.m., the Crawford County Dispatch Center was notified of a multi-vehicle crash on Main Street in Ferryville.

Ethan Swiggum, 19, rural Eastman, was driving a 2006 Pontiac van north on Main Street when he fell asleep. His vehicle veered right, hitting a legally parked 2017 Chevy Cruze owned by Stacie Sanborn. The impact pushed the Sanborn vehicle into the rear of a legally parked 2018 Chevy Impala owned by Julia Harris.

Swiggum was not injured and was wearing his seatbelt.

Swiggum’s vehicle sustained front end damage and was towed.

He was cited for inattentive driving.

Sanborn’s vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed.

Harris’ vehicle sustained rear-end damage and was able to be driven.

Assisting at the scene were the Ferryville Fire Department, Milo’s Towing and Bob’s Towing.
