The city of Monona is now searching for a new council member, following the surprise resignation of Doug Bachman last week. Bachman announced his decision via a letter that was dropped off at city hall on Monday, March 4, just hours before the council’s first regular meeting of the month. No explanation for the resignation was provided.

Bachman replaced Jason Schubert on the council in 2016, and was re-elected in 2017. His current four-year term runs through 2021.

Bids accepted for city projects

The council accepted bids for two upcoming city projects. The first, for replacement of the community center roof, went to Reitzler Roofing and Construction, of Lone Tree, at a cost of $35,669.

For demolition and disposal of the city-owned structure at 201 N. Page St., the council accepted a $19,000 bid from MB Construction, of Monona.

Offer accepted for residential property

At the meeting, the council also accepted an offer of $202 from Russ and Tabetha Bries to purchase the city-owned residential property at 605 S. Main St. The proposal includes rehabbing the existing structure and adding a garage with living space. The project will take a year to complete.

With an offer accepted, the council then authorized holding a public hearing and publishing a notice of intent to sell the property.
