Burdette “Bud” Carl Schenke, 98, of Edgewood, formerly of Colesburg, died on Sunday, March 10, 2019, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10:25 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, at the United Methodist Church, Colesburg. 

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, at the United Methodist Church in Colesburg, conducted by Pastor Roger White. 

Interment will be in Zion Cemetery – Colesburg.

Bud was born on Jan. 17, 1921, in Earlville, the son of Benjamin and Florence (Kurrelmeyer) Schenke.

On March 21, 1947, Bud was united in marriage to LaVera E. Williams at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Three children were born to this union. The family owned and operated a dairy farm near Colesburg.

Bud valued hard work and had a strong connection to his family and the land. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening, card playing, and anything to do with grandchildren and the dairy farm. In his later years, he enjoyed road tripping on country roads with his wife. 

Bud is survived by his wife of nearly 72 years, LaVera; his children, Marilee Pityer of Manchester, Gene (Patti) Schenke of Colesburg, and Bruce (Doris) Schenke of Colesburg; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Janet Brockmeyer of Mason City and Wilma Lincoln of Edgewood; a sister-in-law, Hope Schenke; and many nieces and nephews. 

Bud was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Schenke; three sisters, Marie Schenke, Donna Reynolds and Ruth (Walter) Lanning; and brothers-in-law, Virgil Brockmeyer and Robert Lincoln.
