Linda Mae Ames, 63, of Mt. Hope, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien. 

She was born on Sept. 2, 1955, in Boscobel, the daughter of Wilbur and Alice (Whitish) Colson. 

Linda attended and graduated from Iowa-Grant High School in 1973. Shortly after, Linda married her first husband, and they later divorced in 1994. On June 23, 2001, she was united in marriage to Jeffrey Ames. They made their home in Potosi until moving to Mt. Hope in 1997. 

Linda was always a caring and compassionate person, which led her to become a CNA for many years. She worked at the Prairie Nursing Home and later, Homeward Bound. Her declining health forced her to leave the workforce before she was truly ready. Linda enjoyed camping and staying in touch with family and friends by texting. Linda will be remembered for being a donor is spirit. She wanted to help others with the gift of donation, but was unable to because of her declining health. She will be missed by all who loved her. 

Linda is survived by her husband Jeff, five children, Eric (Sandy) Schafer, Jeremy (Wendi) Schafer, Joseph (Danielle) Schafer, Samantha White (Jerico Kalish) and Quinton Ames; 26 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; siblings, Annabelle (Bruce) Schaal, Joyce Kirschbaum, Royce Colson, Merle (Carol) Colson, David (Cheryl) Colson, Paulette Friederick, Paul Colson, Patricia (Bill) Hill; father-in-law John Ames; and her pet cats, Roxy and Sniffles. 

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, son Duane Schafer; siblings, William Colson, Betty Colson, Gerald Colson, Elaine Colson, and Joann Hugill; sisters-in-law Patsy Colson, Beverly Colson; brothers-in-law; Bill Hugill, Bill Hill, Jerry Kirschbaum; and her mother-in-law Joan Ames. 

Funeral services were held on Monday, March 18, at the Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore with burial to follow in the Prairie Cemetery. In lieu of plants and flowers, a memorial may be given in loving memory of Linda Mae Ames.
