On March 23, at 2 a.m., the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit initiated a traffic stop on a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu in the township of Freeman. The deputy identified the driver as Kyle Vanderbilt, 32, Prairie du Chien. A 24-year-old Prairie du Chien man was a passenger in the vehicle.

Vanderbilt, who is on active parole for possession of methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine precursors, had an active felony warrant for his arrest through the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. He was displaying signs of drug impairment. K-9 Breck was utilized for an open air sniff of the vehicle and alerted to the presence of one or more controlled substances.

Vanderbilt was in possession of numerous items associated with the sale of meth. These items included seven individually packaged bags of crystal chunk substances, each with various amounts. These later tested positive for meth and weighed to about half an ounce of meth. Also in the vehicle were several hundred empty small plastic baggies, several small plastic baggies with crystal residue, a digital scale, THC concentrate, schedule 4 controlled substance, a suspected counterfeit $100 bill and numerous hypodermic needles, which were used to ingest meth.

Vanderbilt was transported to the Crawford County Jail. Possible charges include possession with intent to deliver meth greater than 10-50 grams, operating with a restricted controlled substance (fifth offense), possession of a schedule 4 controlled substance, possession of THC, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating after revocation and the DOC warrant.

Vanderbilt’s passenger was not arrested and was released.

Assisting were the Vernon County Sheriff’s Department, Scott’s Towing, Wisconsin Probation and Parole and Crossing Rivers Health.
