A 35-year-old Dorchester, Iowa man has been charged in Crawford County Circuit Court with one count of operating while intoxicated (fifth offense), one count of failure to install an ignition interlock device, and one count of operating while revoked.

Nicholas Mahr faces up to  11.5 years of imprisonment and fines of $28,100 if convicted of all counts.

According to the criminal complaint, a vehicle hit a truck which was parked in a parking lot in downtown Prairie du Chien. The driver of the vehicle then asked someone for directions to Bob’s Bar and left the scene.

Officers then went to the southern portion of the parking lot and a man, later identified as Nicholas Mahr, approached the squad car and asked directions to Bob’s Bar. The officers then gave Mahr directions and the officers started to drive away from the area, the complaint said.

The officers then remembered that a witness had told them the hit-and-run driver had asked directions to Bob’s Bar. The officers then exited the squad car and approached Nicholas Mahr. Mahr admitted to hitting the vehicle in the parking lot. Mahr had a .02 restriction along with a probation restriction to not consume alcohol. Mahr also admitted to drinking a beer earlier that day, the complaint said.

Field sobriety tests were performed and Mahr was arrested and transported to Crossing Rivers Health for a legal blood draw. Mahr has four previous convictions for OWI.
