ABCM Corporation of Hampton is pleased to announce Miranda Barnhart as the newly-hired administrator at their Guttenberg location. The Guttenberg Care Center and adjoining Eagle Ridge Independent & Assisted Living are located at 1315 Acre St. The senior living center overlooks the  area's infinite rolling hills and showcases a panoramic view of the Mississippi River.

The spacious outdoor surroundings at The Guttenberg Care Center offer a unique area to enjoy a carefree retirement option with a breath-taking view. The Guttenberg Care Center also offers the Healthy Living Home Care which provides services to local community residents in their homes.

The care center invites the public to a Meet and Greet on Wednesday, May 1, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. "The event will include a full dinner grill-out and live music by Jesse Moser in the courtyard and dessert served in Eagle Ridge Assisted Living," she said.

Barnhart steps into the position of administrator with a passion for long-term care and several years of hands-on experience in several departments in a variety of senior living facilities.

She said, "I have been working in the long-term care field since high school. I received my Certified Nursing Assistant certificate through the ABCM Corporation at NICC. I have worked as a dietary, activity, environmental and nurses' aide. I most recently was the manager at Eagle Ridge Independent & Assisted Living for the past 13 months."

The Colesburg native has a bachelor's degree in finance, business administration and marketing from Loras College and a master's degree in health care administration from Purdue Global.

The self-described "people person" loves spending time outdoors with family and friends and the quiet solitude of a good book.

Barnhart shared her desire to work within the long-term care field. "I have always had a passion for business. I originally wanted to become an accountant but felt the field wasn't a good fit as it did not allow as much engagement with others as I wanted. After becoming a nurse's aide, I fell in love with the senior living environment while working within several facilities. I instantly knew I wanted to combine the business and medical field. After several job shadows and internships, I found my desire to be within healthcare administration," she said.

Barnhart hopes to enhance relationships with local businesses in and around the community while continuing to offer a variety of services. The administrator is proud of the facility’s excellence in care and hopes to increase it’s census.

She commented, "We have an excellent team full of longevity in our facility. Our care center offers a team of supervisors with a combined total of 211 years of experience. That speaks volumes to our commitment to enhancing the lives of our community's aging population."

Onward Program

The Guttenberg Care Center is unique in offering its "Onward Program," to the community.

Barnhart described the program, "We have an extensive in-house therapy program with certified, trained staff for your rehabilitation needs. The rehabilitation services patients utilize an array of our programs including skilled care, assisted living, and home care, along with other services throughout the community." She continued, "The rehab's location is accessible from the parking lot located in the rear of the facility for easy entrance to our lower level."

In addition, the Care Center offers an in-home service to help rehabilitated patients transition home safely.

Barnhart shared, "When a patient is ready to return home after a stay, the direct care staff or rehabilitation aides that are responsible for their well-being in our facility  ensure a safe transition. The Onward Program coordinator, Angie White, completes a safety evaluation of the residence, ensures their medication and all medical equipment necessary or desired is available and ready for use in the home, and the facility provides meals for three days after they return home."

She continued, "The follow-up care provides the patient with a familiar, friendly face and someone who would quickly recognize if something were off during their visits while delivering the meals."

The care center offers free transportation to those patients who utilize the rehabilitation services and also provides transportation of its residents and tenants for medical and non-medical needs. Home care clients also take advantage of transportation to increase their social interactions within the community.

The ambitious, young administrator hopes to increase community awareness of the services offered by the Guttenberg Care Center, strengthen the already existing relationships the facility has throughout the community while also creating new ones, and continue to lead the team that provides a continuum of excellent care.
