James Olinger
August 19, 1930-July 7, 2019

James Lewis Olinger, 88, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2019, at his home. He was born on August 19, 1930, in Strawberry Point, the son of Paul and Nellie (Farmer) Olinger. James received his education in the Strawberry Point Schools.  

On December 26, 1957, James was united in marriage to Mary Marlene Avis at St. John Catholic Church in Coggon. Four children were born to this union.  James was a lifelong farmer.  

James was also a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Strawberry Point. He enjoyed square dancing, as well as playing cards and games.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mary Marlene Olinger of Strawberry Point; four children, Jerry (Marlene) Olinger of Elkader, Mariann (Virgil) Pilola of Clinton, Gene (Geraldine) Olinger of Strawberry Point, and Mark (Laura) Olinger of Anamosa; three grandchildren, Brittani (Tyler) Reuter, Paul Olinger, and Alec Pilola; three sisters, Joan (John) McInerney of Cedar Rapids, Linda Moine of Strawberry Point, and Janell (Bob) Boyd of Mt. Carmel, Tennessee; and a brother-in-law, Leonard Smith of Terrell, Texas.

James was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Janet Smith.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m., on Friday, July 12, 2019, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Strawberry Point, Iowa, where there will be a 6:30 p.m. Scripture Service. There will be a Mass of Resurrection at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, July 13 2019, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Strawberry Point, with Rev. John Haugen, presiding. Inurnment will be at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Strawberry Point, Iowa
