Gloria F. Jacobson, of Rib Lake, and formerly of Baileys Harbor, Ogema, Bagley, and Prairie du Chien, died Friday, June 14, 2019, at the Rib Lake Health Services nursing home at the age of 87, after several years with dementia.

She was born on March 31, 1932, in Lily, S.D., to Peter and Alma (Ohleen) Peterson.

She graduated from the Lily S.D. High School in 1949, and attended three years of nursing school at Fairview Hospital, in Minneapolis, Minn., graduating in 1952. She married Luther Jacobson in 1952. She worked throughout her career as a registered nurse, including the hospitals in Medford and Prairie du Chien. Gloria enjoyed traveling, including a visit to relatives in Norway, and driving to visit family and friends around the Upper Midwest. Throughout the summer, she enjoyed bicycling, sometimes riding more than a thousand miles per year. In her younger adult years, she enjoyed skiing and found relaxation creating traditional Scandinavian rosemåling designs using embroidery rather than paint.

Survivors include four of five children, Julie Jacobson Vann, of Chapel Hill, N.C., Kirk Jacobson (Donna), of Hudson, Peter Jacobson (Barbara), of Ogema, and Tim Jacobson (Lisa), of La Crescent, Minn.; four grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two siblings, Mary Jo Christensen of Sedona, Ariz., and Wayne Peterson of Rochester, Minn.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Ruth McKinney; her brother, Stan Peterson; and her husband, Luther Jacobson.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, Aug. 10, at 11 a.m., at First Lutheran Church in Ogema. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to either the “Caring for Creation” fund at First Lutheran Church, W4950 State Rd. 86. Ogema, WI 54459, or the Alliance of Nurses for Health Environments (https://envirn.org/donate) at: ANHE, 2901 Shepherd St., Mount Rainier, MD 20712.
