The Wauzeka-Steuben School Board has announced its selection of an interim superintendent, David Alexander, who will assume duties from current interim, Gary Albrecht. Alexander's contract will be approved at the Sept. 16 board meeting.

Alexander holds a Bachelor of Science in communications from UW-La Crosse, and a Master of Science in educational leadership from Cardinal Stritch University. Prior to his retirement in June of 2019, Alexander worked 24 years in the Yorkville (Wisconsin) School District, including 18 as superintendent.

Alexander will work approximately 15 days during a transition period from Oct. 1 through Dec. 31, and then assume all duties beginning Jan. 1, 2020.

Albrecht arrived in January of 2018. Since that time, the district received two Wisconsin safety grants, the food service program has been restructured, extensive maintenance work has been completed, a Fund 46 for future maintenance has been established, and economic development/planning has proceeded in the school district and community in preparation for a forthcoming referendum. The tax rate and school staffing have remained stable. All classroom teachers have been retained since the spring of 2018, and the district is postured for success.

Albrecht believes the district presents an extremely positive learning environment for students and that this is an appropriate time for a smooth leadership transition to continue positive progress. Following the transition period, Albrecht will return to retirement in Madison. He is grateful to all staff, the board, students and the community for their support of education in the community, and an enjoyable two years. v
