Clarice Olga Balk
Clarice Olga Balk, 92, of Eastman, passed away Saturday, Aug. 31, 2019, at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien. She was born Sept. 10, 1926, in Lynxville, the daughter of Soren and Bertha (Fortney) Torger.
She was married to Howard Clarke who preceded her in death. She was then married to Ed Fisher who preceded her in death. Later, Clarice married Lyman Balk, who also preceded her in death. She worked at Hidden Valley Lodge in Prairie du Chien and later became the “voice” of Wal-Mart, where she worked in various departments over the years until her retirement. Clarice was an active member of the United Methodist Women.
She is survived by her children, Jim (Patty) Clarke, Charley (Kristy) Fisher and Susie (Doug) Konichek; her stepchildren Norman (Marilyn) Balk, Nancy Sutton, Mary (Phil) Trautsch and Donna Sarbacker; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, David Clarke; her husbands; and a sister, Helen Vanderbilt.
A Memorial Service will be Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m. at the Salem United Methodist Church, Pastor Cheryl Weaver officiating, with interment in the Campbell Cemetery both in Eastman. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of services. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.
