The City of Guttenberg received word last week that it was awarded a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant from the Iowa Economic Authority.
The money will be used to fund sanitary sewer improvements. Total cost of the local project is estimated at $1.4 million.
Awards totaling $2.1 million were announced on Sept. 5 for water and infrastructure projects in seven Iowa communities. Guttenberg with its half million dollar grant was the largest award recipient.
The Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) made the awards through the Community Development Block Grant program, which provides support for downtown improvements.
IEDA received 11 applications totaling $3.2 million in requests. Grants are awarded based upon the benefit to low and moderate-income persons, financial need, project impact and readiness and commitment of local resources to the project. The CDBG program is federally funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
