John T. “Bud” Hying, III, 70, of Prairie du Chien, passed away on Monday, Sept. 16, 2019, at his home. 

He was born on Feb. 25, 1949, the son of John and Jeanne (Sinholdt) Hying. 

Bud graduated from West Grant High School. He was employed at 3M in Prairie du Chien, and was drafted into the United States Army and served his county during the Vietnam War. For over 19 months, Bud was in Cambodia and along the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Northern Vietnam. Upon his honorable discharge, Bud was awarded a Combat Infantry Badge, three Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star and an Air Medal. He resumed employment at 3M, retiring after 47 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and, in his retirement, working on lawn mowers and spending time on the Hying Family Farm. Bud was a loving father and grandfather who will be missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his children, John (Connie Rode) IV, and Mandee (Curtis) Dundee; six grandchildren, Kyle (Alycia) Wikinson, John Hying V, Blain Swenson, Shania, Tristian and Alysia Dundee; nieces, nephews; and a stepson, Steve Gugger.

In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his brother, William “Bill” Hying, and an uncle, Roy Hying. 

In keeping with John’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. A visitation will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home and Crematory in Bloomington. Burial with military honors will be in Brodtville Cemetery, Wyalusing Township. Online condolences may be left at www.martinschwartzfuneralhomes.com.
