Wildlife Damage Technician for Crawford County, Greg Cerven, told the County Soil and Water Committee Tuesday morning that Eastman Locker will once again be the drop-off location for deer hunters wishing to donate to those less fortunate.

Cerven said the county hasn’t had such a drop-off location for a few years for the Deer Donation Project.

Hunters wishing to donate venison must first have their deer tested for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), said Cerven. If the deer doesn’t have CWD, it can then be dropped off at Eastman Locker where it will be processed. The DNR’s Deer Damage Program pays for the processing.

Cerven said the processed venison is taken to either the Gays Mills Food Pantry or the Couleecap Food Pantry in Prairie du Chien where it will be available in one or two-pound ground venison packages.

“The Deer Donation Project is an excellent and worthwhile project,” said Cerven, who is also the Wildlife Damage Technician for Richland and Grant counties.
