The opportunity to have a Pop-Up Shop or two in downtown Prairie du Chien this holiday season is still a possibility.

Prairie du Chien Main Street, Crawford County Community Development, Couleecap and Wisconsin Economic Development are working intensely—with two landlords and three entrepreneurs who’ve submitted applications—toward getting one or a couple small businesses in place as soon as possible, according to Jessica Spayde, Crawford County Community Development Extension Educator.

The goals would be to not only provide a solid support system for a determined entrepreneur and secure income for a landlord, but to also add to the current local shopping options and stimulate commerce in the downtown.

“We want to get people in place ASAP so, if we could do it by ‘last week,’ that would be great,” she said jokingly.

In the meantime, Spayde encouraged, the community can help out by keeping tabs on the Pop-Up Shop program, shopping local, spending time downtown and talking with business owners about this program and other campaigns to push foot traffic there.

“The more we hear about this and the more we hear about PdC Main Street, the better environment we can provide for entrepreneurs and existing businesses,” she said. “We’re here to get people involved and support anyone with a great idea.”

Citizens are invited to further the main street conversation and its potential by attending a Main Street Idea Session on Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Library. Any community residents or business representatives are welcome.

Beyond that, there’s also a Prairie du Chien Main Street meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 4:30 p.m. at the county administration building. All interested individuals may attend.
