Prairie du Chien emergency responders and good samaritans pulled a man out from underneath the SUV that suddenly pinned him Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 30.

At about 2 p.m., the Prairie du Chien Police Department, Tri-State EMS and the Prairie du Chien Fire Department were dispatched to Lockwood Court in Prairie du Chien, where a man was trapped under a vehicle.

Upon arrival, it was determined that Ethan Koozer, 21, of Prairie du Chien, was working on his vehicle when the equipment used to hoist the vehicle in the air failed. The Chevy Trailblazer fell on top of Koozer, pinning him underneath, according to the Prairie du Chien Police Department.

First responders were able to lift the vehicle off the man using a floor jack provided by nearby Hess Auto, of Prairie du Chien. This equipment was requested by Dennis Kirschbaum, also of Prairie du Chien, who arrived on scene to help.

Koozer was transported to Crossing Rivers Health and was alert and conscious at the time, Chief of Police Kyle Teynor said.

“Without the quick thinking and help of Mr. Kirschbaum and the employees of Hess Auto, the outcome of this incident may have been different,” Teynor said. “Our department would like to extend a sincere thank you to Mr. Kirschbaum and Hess Auto for going out of their way to help a stranger and first responders. Their selfless action cannot go without recognition.”
