Irene L. Mitchell, 77, of Prairie du Chien, passed away on Monday, Nov. 18, 2019 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. 

She was born May 28, 1942, the daughter of Charles and Evelyn (Garvey) Heisz. 

She married Fred Plondke and later divorced. She then married Wayne Mitchell on Nov. 28, 1987. Irene was a proud graduate of St. Mary’s Academy in 1960. Irene loved spending time with her grandchildren, spending time with her dog Lilly, watching the Packers and Badgers, and playing a good game of euchre. 

She is survived by her husband, Wayne; her son Dan (Becky) Plondke; daughters, Theresa (Todd) Mathison and Julie (Eric) Fuller; her sister, Theresa (Steve) Wetter; a brother-in-law, Paul (Mary) Mitchell; grandchildren, Zach, Katie, Skylar, Nicole, Jenna, Marissa, Savannah (John), Dakota, Ashley and Bailey; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Heisz and Corrine Heisz. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Scott Plondke; brothers, Francis and Ivan Heisz; sister, Mary C. Benoy; sister-in-law, Patricia (Kahler) Heisz; and foster brother, William Green. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Nov. 22, at 11 a.m. at Saint Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish in Prairie du Chien, with Monsignor Charles Stoetzel and Rev. James Dubert concelebrating. Interment will be at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in Eastman. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of services. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.
