Virgil William Fette, 86, of St. Olaf, Iowa, died Friday, Nov. 22, 2019. 

Virgil was born April 25, 1933, in Elkader, Iowa, to Albert and Rosina (Glawe) Fette. 

He attended elementary school in St. Olaf up to eighth grade. Virgil was united in marriage to Dolores Geisler at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Prairie du Chien, on Oct. 6, 1953. He enjoyed farming all of his life until his retirement in 1995. Virgil enjoyed dancing, playing cards, being outdoors and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of the Norway Lutheran Church and enjoyed his church family. He served on the board of the St. Olaf Co-op and St. Olaf Feed and Supply.

He is survived by four children, James of St. Olaf, Diana (Brad) Butikofer of Bend, Ore., Steve (Julie) of Coggon, Iowa, and Lori (Todd) Balekos of Monona, Iowa; one sister, Eileen Peterson of Gunder, Iowa; two brothers, Ronald (Peggy) Fette of New London, Iowa, and Richard (Dianne) Fette of Elkader, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and a special friend, Marlene Glawe of St. Olaf.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dolores; his sister, Joyce Muller; brothers-in-law, John Muller and Warren Peterson.

Visitation in honor of Virgil was Tuesday, Nov. 26, at Norway Lutheran Church in rural St. Olaf. Funeral services were on Wednesday, Nov. 27, at Norway Lutheran Church, with Rev. Marshall Hahn officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Casket Bearers included Steve Kramer, Adam Fette, Nicholas Fette, Brandon Balekos, Justin Fette, Tony Huot, D.J. Pfeiffer, Paul Diederich and Matthew Bishop. 

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service assisted the family.
