Marie Agnes Theresa Becwar, 76, of Prairie du Chien, formerly of La Crosse, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019, at Prairie Maison in Prairie du Chien. 

Marie was born on April 8, 1943, in Prairie du Chien, to Joseph George and Agnes Marie (Fritsche) Becwar. 

Marie was baptized and confirmed at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien and graduated from St. Gabriel Catholic Grade School and Prairie High School. Marie worked for a short time as a waitress in Prairie du Chien and, at the age of 19, moved to La Crosse. While living in La Crosse, Marie was a dietary aide for 38 years at St. Francis Hospital and Mayo until her retirement. She recently moved back to Prairie du Chien in May of 2017. Marie was a member of St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral while living in La Crosse and was currently a member of St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish in Prairie du Chien.

Survivors include her sister, Rose Mary (Becwar) Bauer of Prairie du Chien; nieces and nephews. 

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Agnes Becwar; one brother, Francis Becwar, and one sister, Marcella (Becwar) Cliff.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Prairie du Chien, with Monsignor Charles Stoetzel as the celebrant. Visitation will be held one hour before mass time at the church on Saturday. Inurnment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Prairie du Chien. 

Thornburg – Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Prairie du Chien is in charge of arrangements.
