Freshman Rhett Koenig wrestles his Darlington/Blackhawk opponent in the semifinal round of regionals. Koenig would get the fall to advance to the finals, where he’d win a championship at 106#.

Freshman Maddox Cejka applies pressure against his Dodgeville opponent in the semifinal round of regionals. In the finals, Cejka would avenge a loss from just a week ago at the Clash, with an overtime thriller to win the championship at 120#.

On Saturday, Feb. 15, the WIAA Wrestling Tournament series started in Wisconsin.

Prairie du Chien was host for a WIAA D2 Regional, with seven teams competing for the crown.

The PdC grapplers showed up to wrestle, and came away with a Regional Championship, marking the third consecutive year the Hawks have done so.

PdC scored 284 points on their way to a very convincing win. Monroe finished second with 171 points.

Every wrestler in the PdC lineup scored points. At the end of the day, the Hawks advanced 11 wrestlers to next weekend’s sectional. All 11 were Regional Champs, an unprecedented feat in the history of PdC wrestling.

Champions were: Rhett Koenig (106#), Ryder Koenig (113#), Maddox Cejka (120#), Luke Kramer (126#), Matt Rogge (132#), Kurt Wall (138#), Chase Fisher (145#), Traeton Saint (160#), Bradyn Saint (170#), Tyler Hannah (195#), and Colten Wall (220#). In addition, Ben Riter (182#) finished third and Brogan Brewer (152#) and Brice Martin (285#) finished sixth.

On Saturday, the Blackhawks will be in Evansville for individual sectionals. Go Hawks!
