Ramona M. Jelinek, 88, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2020, at Prairie Maison Nursing Home in Prairie du Chien. 

Ramona was born Aug. 23, 1931. in Bagley, the daughter of Richard and Florence (Stagman) Ward. 

She married LaVerne Jelinek on Oct. 7, 1950. They built their house in Prairie du Chien and began raising their family. Ramona was an amazing mother and worked full-time at National Decorated Metals, where she worked as a secretary for her union. She later worked for Edwards Plumbing and Heating. She was so active working, baking and always had time to help her children and grandchildren. Ramona enjoyed her volunteer work with Alzheimer’s and hospice patients. She was a proud member of the Prairie du Chien Rescue Squad. Her hobbies were crocheting, knitting, painting and cake decorating. She also enjoyed hunting and was a “crack shot” with her .22 caliber rifle. 

Ramona is survived by her children, Diane (Ron) Pitzer, Gail (Mike) Simons, Cindy (Greg) Rooney and Rick (Tracy) Jelinek; her sister, Clarice (Tom) Kalscheur; 12 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; and three grandchildren, Tara Ann, Jeremy Michael, and Michael Talon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, March 3, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish in Prairie du Chien, Msgr. Stoetzel officiating, with interment in the Bagley Cemetery, Bagley. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. 

The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.
