Police believe they have identified the suspect involved in the theft of several thousands of dollars in merchandise from Cabela’s in Prairie du Chien Monday, March 2.

At about 11 a.m., officers from the Prairie du Chien Police Department responded to Cabela’s retail store for a theft report. They found several boat sonar units were stolen from the store and learned that a male suspect walked out with the products to a vehicle that was waiting for him under the drive-up canopy. The vehicle is described as a white Chrysler Sebring with damage to the hood. It had a vanity front license plate with a baseball home plate and an M (for Brewers), and on the back appeared to be an Iowa plate.

Through social media efforts and contact with area law enforcement, police believe they have identified the suspect and are working to get in touch with him. Other area agencies are investigating burglaries and thefts for which the same man is suspected as being responsible.

The police are still requesting any information the public may have be relayed to them or Crime Stoppers, (866) 779-7297. Particularly, they would like to view residential video from the Frederick Street area between 10:35 a.m. and 11 a.m. on March 2. If you live in that area and have a personal security camera, contact the police department at 326-2421.
