Sandbags will be available as river continues to rise

The Mississippi River continues to rise. The National Weather Service is predicting the river stage at the McGregor gauge to increase to 19 feet by Wednesday, April 8.

Water is over the road at the following locations:

•North Main Street near the intersection of Cedar Street.

•The Washington Street and North Main Street intersection is closed.

•There is water over the rock wall at Lawler Park along the river on North Water Street.

Crawford County Emergency Management, in conjunction with the Prairie du Chien Street Department, Prairie du Chien Correctional Institution, and the city of Prairie du Chien (donating the sand), has made sandbags available to the public.

Sandbags are located at the Prairie du Chien Street Department at 625 East Washington Street in the city of Prairie du Chien. 

The sandbags will be available the evening of Friday, April 3. These sandbags are at no cost to the public. If anyone needs assistance getting sandbags, they can contact Crawford County Emergency Management at 608-326-0266.
