The Prairie Villa Rendezvous, usually held Father’s Day weekend in Prairie du Chien, has been postponed to Sept. 17-20.

The 44th annual reenactment event of the Big River Long Rifles will remain on St. Feriole Island, but be delayed three months due to cautions for COVID-19.

This change was announced on the Prairie Villa Rendezvous Facebook page Sunday. This followed a safe gathering of the club members weighing in on the decision to delay or cancel. The decision to only postpone was unanimous, according to the club.

The club considered two different dates for rescheduling. The members took into consideration the Rendezvous circuit and the other related events that changing the date could conflict with. Also, it was necessary to have the Prairie du Chien Fire Department on board, according to the club, because they are the organizers of the flea market held the same weekend. Of course, St. Feriole Island needed to be free on the new weekend as well, and it was Sept. 17-20.

“We are hoping for the best in the fall: the weather, the pandemic and having everyone healthy,” a club spokesperson said.

The June 2019 Rendezvous and flea market were canceled due to continuous high water on the island.

The Long Rifles announced in January 2020 that, if the river was high once again this year, they had secured an alternate location for the large community event.

The 2020 officers of the Big River Long Rifles include Gerry Rosauer, president; Karla Witzig, vice-president; Julie Rosauer, treasurer; Julie Warrington, secretary; Martha Bailey Isabell-Tieman, historian; Ty Witzig, range officer; and Joe Finney, booshway.
