On Saturday, May 23, 2020, Juanita Efferding (Kass) Valley passed away peacefully at the Great River Care in McGregor, Iowa. She was 97 years young, having lived an active and productive life.

A lifelong resident of Bellevue, Iowa, and Prairie du Chien, Juanita was born on Nov. 26, 1922, and grew up on a farm in Bellevue. She attended the University of Dubuque, and she taught school in Dubuque and Bellevue, prior to marrying Joseph D. Valley Sr. in 1947. She worked along with her husband, Joe, and later with her son, Joe Jr., in management of Valley Small Engines on East Blackhawk Avenue in Prairie du Chien.

Juanita was an active volunteer of the Eagles Club and the VFW.  She had a great love for animals, including her canine companion Pepper, and feline Jake.

Juanita was the beloved mother of four children and survived by three daughters who were all proud to call her mom, as well as several grandchildren to whom she provided support and love. Survivors include daughters Vicki Valley, London, Canada, Joyce Valley (Dale Purdy), Stuart, Fla., and Mary Ladwig, Miromar Lakes, Fla.; grandchildren, Daniel Herscovitch (Katie Levy), Philadelphia, Marc Herscovitch (Patricia Fernandez), Toronto; Elizabeth (Keven) Narveson, Oregon (Wis.), Erin (Ross) Stiteley, Madison, Nikolas Ladwig, Ft. Myers, Fla.; great-granddaughters, Morgan and Blair Narveson, Oregon, (Wis.); many nieces and nephews.

Juanita was predeceased by her husband, Joe, in 1989; her son, Joe Jr., in 2001; her grandson, Michael Ladwig, in 2017; and her great-granddaughter Paige Narveson in 2018.

We invite you to celebrate with us at a home-going service. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this will be delayed and announced at a later time.

Any donations should be sent in Juanita’s honor to Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 421, or to Tender Care Animal Hospital, 1420 E. Lessard St., both in Prairie du Chien, WI 53821.

The family asks that any cards and letters be sent to 296 Bergamont Blvd., Oregon, WI 53575.
