Guttenberg's annual Celebrate Guttenberg promotion is set to take place this Friday and Saturday, Aug. 7 and Aug. 8. Due to the pandemic, the number of events has been scaled back from previous years by the Guttenberg Chamber of Commerce.

The event kicks off on Friday evening with a fish fry from 4-8 p.m. at the gazebo in Ingleside Park near the River of Music venue. The public is invited to enjoy locally-caught fish, fries, slaw, baked beans, cookies and beverages; ticket prices are $10 adults and $5 for youngsters ages 12 and under. 

"In response to the need for social distancing, no seating for meals will be available. All orders are for take-out," said Chamber Director Mandy Ludovissy. "Curb-side pickup of fish fry orders will also be available." Tickets can be purchased in advance at Esser's Clothing or the day of the event.

The Chamber fish fry is made possible by food and monetary donations from Guttenberg businesses. "The Guttenberg business community appreciates the residents for their ongoing support — this event is for the community from the community," said the director. "Proceeds from the event will be used for promotional activities and to support Guttenberg and its businesses." 

Everyone is invited to enjoy their dinner near the band shell for River of Music concert that evening. The sounds of classic rock and country music will fill the air when Pizzin' in the Wind plays from 6-8 p.m. (See story page 3 for details).  

Saturday morning will feature annual sidewalk sales by Guttenberg retailers. See ads of participating businesses elsewhere in this issue. The weekly Guttenberg's Farmers Market in downtown Guttenberg from 8 a.m. to noon will offer the best of summer produce, flowers,baked goods, honey, and much more.

A youth fishing tournament is also planned that morning from 8-11 a.m. Young anglers should register at 7:30 a.m. in the south marina parking lot. Anglers should return to the site by 11 a.m. for weigh-in and prizes. The event is hosted by the Guttenberg Motel.
