Another top 10 finish for MFL MarMac's Moser

The MFL MarMac cross country team ran in its second meet of the season at North Fayette Valley on Sept. 10. 

Junior Sydney Moser earned her second top-10 finish of the season, placing eighth with a time of 22:05. Freshman Clare Grau also performed well, completing the course in 22:33, which was good for 13th place. Other Bulldog finishers included freshmen Kaylee Walch and Ayla Gerndt, who were 40th and 45th, respectively, with times of 25:11 and 25:37. Sophomore Alexis Ross came in 54th at 27:14, while freshman Ruby Koeller was 58th at 27:49 and freshman Kaylee Nuehring 65th at 29:12. 

MFL MarMac finished seventh as a team, with a score of 164. South Winneshiek took the top spot, with 66 points, and Dike-New Hartford followed with 76. North Fayette Valley was third at 126, Turkey Valley fourth at 131, Kee fifth at 134 and Sumner-Fredericksburg sixth at 144. Following the Bulldogs were Central with 164 points, Osage with 187 and Oelwein with 199. Clayton Ridge and Postville did not field full teams.

The MFL MarMac boys were led by junior Caleb Nordheim and sophomore Will Koether, who finished 26th and 27th, respectively, with times of 20:34 and 20:36. Another string of Bulldogs, seniors JJ Lynd and Kylee Bries and freshman Kole Pape, came in 53rd, 55th and 56th, thanks to finishes of 24:36, 24:54 and 25:28. Freshman Cody Moses had a time of 26:20 and placed 60th. Junior Hunter Kugel ran the course in 30:28, to come in 61st.

With 217 points, the Bulldogs were the ninth-place team. Host North Fayette Valley was first, with 48. South Winneshiek was second at 87, followed closely by Oelwein at 88 and Clayton Ridge at 91. Dike-New Hartford was fifth at 112, Sumner-Fredericksburg sixth at 135, Osage seventh at 172 and Postville eighth at 200. Central, Kee and Turkey Valley did not have team scores.

The cross country schedule this week includes a meet at Starmont on Tuesday, Sept. 15, then one at Elkader on Thursday, Sept. 17.
