Michael Don Dickey, 67, better known as Mick, passed away Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, due to complications from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Born to Donald and Elda (Allbee) “Dody” Dickey on June 26, 1953, in Platteville, Mick was raised in Madison and later Prairie du Chien, where he graduated from Prairie du Chien High School. Mick started his career by helping at the family sand and gravel service, where he gained skills for other jobs in operating heavy machinery. He loved to travel, as reflected in his later professions. He worked for an area railroad maintenance company before retiring as a long distance truck driver. After retirement, he enjoyed scenic views of the U.S. and Canada through delivering motor homes and large utility vehicles. Though a self-proclaimed introvert, Mick was quick to make friends and loved being in the company of those he held close. He was an avid music, history and trivia buff, and first choice as teammate during social gathering games. A motorcycle enthusiast, he took pride in maintaining and riding his Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail, often taking day trips or Sturgis Rally runs with friends. Family-oriented, he devoted as much time as possible to be with his late wife, children, and grandchildren, whom he adored. A master of all trades, he combined his hobbies with his considerate nature through taking on home-improvement projects, repairs, carpentry, and was an amateur-but-exceptional-chef for those around him. Beloved by many, he leaves behind a legacy of generosity, wisdom, kindness and humor.

Surviving Mick are his children, Jay (Tatiana) Dickey of Waunakee, Shelly (Michal) Peterson of Prairie du Chien, Michala Dickey of Perham, Minn.; sister, Kim Pinkham, and mother, Dody Dickey, both of Prairie du Chien; grandchildren, Finnian, Sofia, Oliver, Ella, and Evie Jane; first wife, Candy Miller; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Deborah; son, Austin; father, Donald; and brother, Donald “Corky.”

A private celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Michael’s honor may be directed to the family to settle his affairs and contribute to charities that advance the research in diabetes and lymphoma. The Roth Family Cremation Center of Viroqua is serving the family.
