MCED holds virtual celebration
This year, in lieu of its “in-person” second annual dinner, Monona Chamber and Economic Development, Inc. (MCED) hosted a “virtual” celebration and silent auction.
The event included recognition of several long-standing businesses. Havlicek Trucking, Inc. was awarded a plaque for its 75th anniversary, while Bruns and James Insurance and Veterans Memorial Hospital both received 70-year plaques. MCED also celebrated 40 years for Vorwald Enterprises, Inc., and 25 years for Sincerely Yours - Interiors by Kay.
The 2020 Community Service Award was presented to Fran and the late Gary Passmore in recognition of their contributions and faithful devotion to Monona. The couple has volunteered with the Butterfly Garden, community visioning, city, chamber, school, church and anywhere needed.
2019 was MCED’s first time hosting a silent auction, which was a success thanks to the many donors, bidders and buyers. MCED continued its annual silent auction fundraising on Facebook this year. The effort, which included 14 silent auction prize baskets that could be bid on, was put together by the MCED board and staff to raise extra revenue to operate MCED and increase its economic development marketing budget that helps grow Monona’s economy.
