PdC riverfront wall gets upgrade
Thanks to Santa and his Elves (aka Steve Steiner and his crew) the wall at Lawler Park has been improved to greatly extend its life.
Parks and Recreation Director Mike Ulrich said there have been ongoing issues with the wall over the years. Steiner’s help should stabilize the entire wall facing the river and prevent scouring. The brick pavement on top and the iron fencing were also fixed.
Ulrich noted the work included 500 feet of tuck pointing, adding large rock to fill gaping holes, adding 200 bags of mortar and five yards of concrete, adjusting the bent fencing, and adding fabric on the walkway to prevent seepage through the cracks.
Funding came from Park Capital Improvements with a cost of $23,300.
There will be some additional work done next year. However, Ulrich is optimistic that the current work done will help keep the riverfront intact for future enjoyment for all users.
