It was another tough week for the Central boys basketball team, as they dropped both games and fell to 1-4 on the year.

In the first game of the week, the Warriors took on Clayton Ridge, losing 67-49 after falling behind early. The Warriors shot 35.3 percent from the field, which was bested by the Eagles’ 51.8 percent performance. In other statistical categories, such as rebounds, free throws, assists and steals, the Warriors kept pace, but they also committed 12 turnovers and 14 fouls. From behind the arc, the team went just 9 for 26.

Evan Pensel led the Warriors in points with 14, followed by Dan McGreal with 13 and Parker Vaughn with eight. Ashton Burroughs came off the bench for six.

CJ Polkinghorn led the way in rebounds with six, while Pensel had four and Tommy Seeland and Burroughs each had three. Three other players, McGreal, Vaughn and Parker Smith, each had two rebounds apiece. Pensel also had one assist and two steals and McGreal added four assists and one steal to the stat line.

In a game against North Fayette Valley, Central failed to score 10 points in three out of the four periods. The Warriors also shot just 31 percent from the field and made only five of 19 attempted three pointers.

During the game, the TigerHawks seemed to impose their will, winning the rebounding battle 36 to 22. The Warriors had eight shots blocked and committed 17 turnovers. The struggling offense and inconsistencies contributed to the 63-33 defeat.

McGreal led the team in points with 12, while Pensel scored seven and Vaughn had five. Pensel added five rebounds to his team-leading total of 20, while Smith had four and Vaughn had three. Vaughn led in assists with four, followed by Burroughs with two and Seeland with one. Burroughs, Pensel and Vaughn each had two steals.

The Warriors look to find their footing with three games this week. They’ll play at Central City on Dec. 14, followed with a home game on Dec. 15 against Turkey Valley. They’ll finish the week at home against South Winn on Dec. 18.
